Just Like a Professional Athlete

It’s getting to be that time of year when we’re getting a lot of kids asking about mouthguards for football, baseball, soccer, and several other sports that can potentially cause injury to their teeth (yes, even bike riding!), and we have a great answer: Drufomat mouthguards.

Drufomat is the latest and greatest technology in custom-fit mouthguards, and is even used by professional athletes.

The National Youth Sports Foundation for the Prevention of Athletic Injuries, Inc., reports that dental injuries are the most common type of orofacial injury sustained during participation in sports. According to the American Dental Association, mouthguards prevent over 200,000 injuries each year in high school and collegiate football alone.

And that’s not even counting the injuries smaller kids get while playing a new sport for the first time!

What Are My Choices?

There are several types of mouthguards available, which include:

  • Stock mouthguard: This type is typically available at sporting goods stores as a ready-made stock item; it requires you to bite down to hold it in place. It offers the least amount of protection and is not considered acceptable for adequate dental protection.
  • Shell-liner mouthguard: This is usually made from an acrylic material which is poured into an outer shell that forms a lining; it’s then placed in the mouth, where the lining material is allowed to set as it molds to the teeth. It provides some protection but can be bulky and have a loose fit.
  • Boil-and-bite mouthguard: This thermoplastic mouthguard is placed in hot water to soften; it’s then placed in the mouth, where it is formed and shaped around the teeth using a finger, the tongue, and sometimes biting pressure. It offers some protection but can also be bulky and have a loose fit.
  • Custom-made mouthguard: By far the best choice, a custom mouthguard offers the best fit, best protection, and best comfort level because it is made from a model of your teeth.

The Difference between Vacuum And Drufomat

Since we’re talking about custom-fit mouthguards, we want you to know why we choose Drufomat as our preferred method.

Vacuum-fabricated mouthguards have been the industry standard since the early to mid-1990s. Creating them was a long, extensive process that could potentially require several visits in order to get them “just right.” Sometimes, it could take up to several weeks before you received your mouthguard.

With the new Drufomat process, we can get your mouthguard custom fit in a little less than a week (even within twenty-four hours if you’re in a real hurry)!

Drufomat mouthguards are completely form fit to your mouth, which allows you to talk more easily while wearing them, and you don’t need to wear a strap (as you do with some other mouthguards).

Another really fun feature is that you can have them personalized with unique colors, team logos, or your favorite sports team.

And because the process is so quick and easy, you don’t even have to be a patient of ours to get fitted for one, so send your whole team in and get them all to match!
