Giving Back This Holiday Season

The holiday season is the best time of the year. There are celebrations, family visits, and fuzzy slippers. As we give thanks for all that we have, we are reminded why this is the season for giving.

Confined to the bubbles of our own lives, it can easily be forgotten that there are people struggling all around us. Whether it’s a family just going through a rough patch, an animal that needs a home, or a veteran down on his luck, there is someone who could use your help this holiday season.

Five Charitable Causes in Flower Mound

Meals on Wheels

One of the best things about the holidays is the chance for some great home cooking, but there are many people in the area that have a little trouble making that happen. From seniors, to vets, to the disabled, many homebound residents in Denton County depend on Meals on Wheels.

Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver nutritious lunches to those in need. They can help provide the food and the containers, but they need YOUR help making deliveries. Learn how you can volunteer on their website.

Flower Mound Humane Society

Some of those in need of help will never be able to say thank you. The Flower Mound Humane Society cares for our four-legged friends who have been displaced. They are always in need of more help, whether it’s walking dogs, answering phones, or assisting with fundraisers and drives.

You can be part of the solution. Click here to get their latest orientation schedule.

Our Daily Bread

Our Daily Bread is a community soup kitchen that serves hundreds of free lunches every day to the hungry and homeless in the area. This is always their busiest time of year, and volunteers are critical to keep their operations running smoothly. Whether it’s food preparation, delivery, or health services, they can’t do it without help from the community.

Orientations for new volunteers are on Tuesday and Thursdays, and they ask for 30-45 volunteers every day. Our Daily Bread has provided hundreds of thousands of meals and donations to the homeless. Let’s fill their ranks and help them keep up the good work.

Children’s Advocacy Center

The Children’s Advocacy Center is committed in helping to protect the children of Denton County. The CACDC hosts annual drives through the holidays to provide meals and non-perishable items to families impacted by child abuse. They will even help you host your own drive for seasonal assistance.

The organization has a continuous need for community ambassadors, child care, and hospitality programs. If you would like to volunteer with the Children’s Advocacy Center, or simply donate, you can find more information on their page.

BedTime Rescue

When a crisis hits and your family is displaced from your home, who do you call? Some may have family and friends with spare room, but if that fails in an emergency, you can call BedTime Rescue.

Created by charitable crusader Kim Cloud, BedTime Rescue provides temporary housing for families that need a safe place to stay. During this time of year, their need for funding is greater than normal, so your donation may very well help keep a family off of the streets.

It’s Not Just a Holiday Issue

Perhaps you want to help and don’t know where to start? Think about what skills you can offer, it’s possible one of the organizations on this list would be able to use your help.

In a season where it’s easy to get wrapped up in abundance, charitable contributions and volunteer work are a great way to spread a little joy around Flower Mound.
